Counselor Spotlight – Benjamín
In this blog you’ll get to know 2019 counselor Benjamín. He told us what he loves about El Pueblo Spanish camp, as well as the Spanish language and cultures. We’re excited to have him back as a counselor, and our Assistant Program Director, for El Pueblo 2019!
Where do you live?
What do you do?
I teach Spanish in Gwinnett County Public Schools.
What do you love about El Pueblo Spanish Camp?
I love getting to live, laugh, and learn in Spanish.
What is your experience with Spanish language and cultures?
I have studied and lived in Madrid, Spain. I’ve also been fortunate to travel to the Dominican Republic, Peru, and Mexico for short periods of time and hope to visit all the Spanish-speaking countries soon.
How do you continue to learn and share Spanish language and cultures?
I am fortunate to work in an International Baccalaureate school where over 60% of our student population is Hispanic/Latinx. It is so amazing to be in a location in Georgia where I hear Spanish in the hallways daily and so many of our students are bilingual or even trilingual.
What is your favorite food from a Spanish speaking country?
My favorite food is paella!
We are super excited that some of our consejeros increíbles (like Benjamín) are returning for another summer at El Pueblo Spanish Camp. They were fundadores of Language South’s first summer of El Pueblo Spanish Camp in 2018.
Language South aims to create an engaging and supportive community that inspires and develops lifelong learners and lovers of languages and cultures. Click here to learn more about working at El Pueblo this summer.
