Tu vecino – Luis Silva

Our Chattanooga area is home to many awesome Spanish-speakers. In our Tu vecino blog, we highlight some of our incredible Spanish-speaking neighbors! This month, Marisol met with Luis Silva to talk about how he contributes to the Chattanooga community.

¿Quién es? Who is he?

Luis is a hard worker who involves himself in many projects within the Chattanooga area. He is an entrepreneur who connects his professional work with his personal passions and values. Luis moved to the U.S. sixteen years ago from Caracas, Venezuela. He spent the first few years here cleaning at night and finishing high school. His family worked for and eventually owned cleaning franchises in Orlando. Then he met his wife, Gisela, and they moved to Tennessee!

¿Qué hace? What does he do?

Luis has worked in the cleaning industry for 16 years. Currently, he owns and runs Squeaky Clean, a floor cleaning and maintenance company. They are driven to help and support minorities to thrive within the cleaning industry. Through training and development they prepare professionals to be proud of their business and to grow as leaders in the industry.

In April 2019, Luis started a new business venture. He purchased The Local Juicery + Kitchen on Main Street in Chattanooga. Spreading awareness of health consciousness has always been one of his passions. He’d like The Local to be a space where diverse people come together to learn and share. You may see him with his Paleta cart at a local event. I (Marisol) recommend his delicious Pineapple Blueberry flavor.

Luis also sits on the board of La Paz Chattanooga. He helps make decisions and turn ideas into actions. Through his connections within the community, he spreads the word about La Paz and advocates for their mission. He believes La Paz is a safe space where people can get the help they need. When he first came to the U.S., he would have benefited greatly from services like what La Paz offers.

¿Cuáles son sus metas profesionales? What are his professional goals?

The common theme in Luis’s work is a desire to help others and develop them to be more productive and prepared members of the community. He enjoys making others happy, and loves doing things that make him happy.

He works hard to find a balance between all of his community involvement and focusing on spending time with his wife and daughters.

¿Quieres conectarte con Luis? Want to connect with Luis?

It’s likely you will run into Luis at an event here in Chattanooga! You should definitely stop by The Local Juicery + Kitchen to say ¡hola! and enjoy fresh cold-pressed juice and plant based food.
